Bed Bugs

libertypestnyc.com
The holiday season has come to and end and many of us were in transit moving from point A to point B.  As we scurried along, thoughts of picking up an unwanted guest probably never crossed our mind.  Unfortunately, some of us ended up giving a ride to the very bothersome and infamous, "Bed bug".  Bed bugs have become a major problem lately causing major infestations in every region in the country with some of our major cities being hit the hardest.  Some of the most notable cities are as follows: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Ohio.  These reports were based on Orkin and Terminix- the nations 2 largest exterminating companies.  The companies did state that they based their report on the amount of calls coming in from these locations.

Bed bugs travel in all things including but not limited to: bags, clothes, mass transit and etc... Keeping your eyes open and being alert is your best defense against these blood suckers. The astute person will be able to detect these tiny terrors before they get out of hand.

So how do we help to prevent the spread of these pesky bed bugs?  By following these simple steps you can help protect yourself and your family from a terrible infestation.

1. Use a flashlight to check the seams and under tags of mattresses and box springs before you get in the bed.
2. When traveling leave your luggage in the bathroom or garage since they wont migrate there.
3. Wash and dry (on high heat for 30 min) your clothes after travelling.
4. If you detect a bed bug call to have your home exterminated immediately-waiting worsens the process.

There you have it; a few simple steps which will help to safeguard your home from these bothersome pests.  Although bed bugs may be a nuisance, thankfully they pose no serious health problems.
